The Ethiopia Stroke Foundation recently hosted a successful community stroke awareness and screening campaign at Yeka Sub-City, Megenagna, bringing vital preventative health education directly to the public. Designed to empower residents with lifesaving knowledge, the workshop provided participants with comprehensive health assessments, including blood pressure monitoring, diabetes screening, and body mass index (BMI) measurements,alongside personalized consultations with healthcare professionals. By focusing on early detection and proactive lifestyle adjustments, the initiative underscored a critical message: recognizing risk factors early and taking immediate action can save lives and prevent the onset of debilitating complications.

The Ethiopia Stroke Foundation continues to strengthen its commitment to stroke prevention and public education through the ongoing National Stroke Awareness in School (NSAS). As part of the Foundation’s awareness pillar, the campaign is creating life-saving conversations among students, teachers, school leaders, and parents across Addis Ababa.
Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and Ethiopia is also facing a growing burden of stroke and other non-communicable diseases. Public awareness and early prevention are essential in reducing this burden. The NSAS initiative was launched to empower young people and communities with knowledge about stroke risk factors, warning signs, prevention, and the importance of seeking urgent medical care.
Since the launch of the campaign, the Ethiopia Stroke Foundation has successfully reached approximately 36,000 individuals through school-based awareness programs. The campaign has expanded to around 12 schools, engaging thousands of students with interactive educational sessions designed to create a stroke-aware generation.
