“Enhancing Capacity, Expanding Impact: Stroke Care Transformation in Africa”

The Ethiopia Stroke Foundation will host the 1st Ethiopia Stroke Foundation Comprehensive Stroke Symposium, jointly with the 6th African Stroke Organization Conference (ASOC 2026), from November 1–4, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This landmark meeting will bring together stroke specialists, physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, researchers, trainees, policymakers, advocates, patients and other stakeholders from Ethiopia, across Africa and internationally. Under the theme “Enhancing Capacity, Expanding Impact: Stroke Care Transformation in Africa,” the conference will focus on strengthening stroke prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, research and health systems across the continent.
The meeting represents an important milestone for stroke care in Ethiopia and a significant moment for the African stroke community, as ASOC comes to the Horn of Africa for the first time. Addis Ababa, home to the African Union, will provide a strategic setting for scientific exchange, professional collaboration and advocacy for improved stroke care across Africa.

Four Days of Scientific Exchange and Capacity Building

The conference will begin on November 1 with pre-conference workshops, hands-on training, capacity-building sessions and professional development activities. The main scientific program will run from November 2–4 and will feature plenary scientific sessions, oral and poster presentations, the Osuntokun Award Lecture, policy and advocacy sessions, career-development opportunities, mentorship and professional networking.
The scientific program will address the full spectrum of stroke care. Key areas will include stroke prevention and brain health, hypertension and vascular risk factors, acute stroke treatment, stroke units, thrombolysis, neuroendovascular treatment, rehabilitation and recovery, stroke research and epidemiology, tele-stroke, quality improvement, health policy and advocacy. The meeting will also emphasize sustainable stroke-care systems and locally relevant, African-led research.
A strong focus will be placed on developing the next generation of African stroke professionals. Residents, trainees, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, early-career researchers and young clinicians and scientists will have opportunities for mentorship, career development, scientific networking and collaboration.

Call for Abstracts

Researchers at all career stages are invited to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentation at ASOC 2026. The conference particularly encourages early-career researchers, residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and trainees to participate.
Importantly, all accepted abstracts will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, providing researchers with an opportunity to share their findings with the wider scientific community.
The extended abstract submission deadline is August 30, 2026, with acceptance decisions expected by September 10, 2026.
Abstracts may cover 13 areas, including acute stroke treatment, aneurysms and vascular malformations, brain health and prevention, cerebrovascular nursing and allied health care, rehabilitation and recovery, health-service systems, imaging, pediatric cerebrovascular disease, translational science and precision stroke medicine, unusual causes of stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke.
Submissions must be in English and provided as a Microsoft Word document. Titles must be in UPPER CASE and contain no more than 25 words, while the abstract itself must not exceed 250 words. Abstracts should include the background and aims, methods, results and conclusions, together with presenting-author contact details and institutional affiliation.”
